Comments:
We enjoyed welcoming Mark, PJ2GT, to the team. Mark is new to contesting, and he
did well in high rate times on 15 on Saturday afternoon. As expected, the score
was down from last year, and the year before, with particularly poor conditions
on 75 meters. We were watching the MUF map and listening to the beacons on
Saturday morning, sure that 10 would open. It took its good old time, but
finally came through at about 2:30 PM local on Saturday, with good rates, loud
signals, and lots of mults. Sunday was even better.
The high point of the contest for me (W0CG) was when someone remarked to me on
15 that "It wouldn't be a contest without working PJ2T." We work hard to
maintain this station, and to assemble a crew each year, so that comment was
really gratifying and it alone made all the work worthwhile. We had a superb
crew, great teamwork, and a huge good time both on and off the bands.
Now that the dust has settled and most of the crew is back in the U.S., we've
settled into the nearly daily maintenance routine that's essential to keeping a
big station up and running -- yesterday and today the project was replacing a
couple of rusty, thinning guy wires on the US/JA tower. Hot, filthy (and
dangerous) work, but that's what keeps this place on the air.
We're told that PJ2T is the most logged callsign in amateur radio the last two
years. We hope we can do our best to live up to that record and keep the station
on for all of the majors. Thanks to all the members of the CCC club group for
all of the work and resources that make this possible, and to everyone who
worked us in the SSB contest. Personally, I can't wait until the next CW
contest, though!
