Greetings from the southwest USA. This is May, our driest month, averaging less
than 0.5" of rain. Guess what happened this weekend ? Thanks to thunderstorms,
lost the first 2 hours, 5 unplanned hours Saturday afternoon, and prematurely
ended the contest at 2023Z Sunday. Managed to squeeze in 35 hours of operating.
Fortunately, the only casualty of the weekend was a lightning-fried modem.
Geesh, I felt like this was Kansas, not New Mexico !
Great condx the first 24 hours. 40 sounded great to EU Friday evening, but I
was too busy playing catch-up from losing the first 2 hours to spend much time
chasing 6 pointers. Too bad - absolutely no EU on 40 Saturday evening. 15 was
open all night, but not runnable until local sunrise. It was really fun to have
a 5 hour EU run on 15 Saturday morning. 20 was the usual - too absorptive
during the day to run EU, but a fine over-the-pole opening Friday night into
UA3/4/6 and eastern EU. Good JA around 06Z both nights on 20, and again Sunday
morning between 13Z-16Z. Except for an excellent 80 meter opening to JA at
sunrise Sunday (but not enough JA activity !), Sunday was blah. Good thing the
Sporadic-E was hot to keep 10 and 15 open within North America.
Congrats to KL9A(NK7U) and N6MJ(NM7W) for great west coast scores, and K5ZD for
a possible new record.
