Comments:
I worked VY1JA for my last section early Sunday afternoon
for the sweep; my first since 1998 or 99, I think. It's a nice
accomplishment, especially unassisted. I'll have to get a mug
for this one!
Conditions did not seem to suffer much for being at the bottom of
the sun spot cycle; 15 had some decent openings and signals were
OK for the most part. Even the QRN on 80 didn't seem so bad
except early on Sunday evening.
I didn't plan my off times so cleverly and basically overslept
Sunday morning, so only got to put in ~21 hours on the radio.
I feel that there was more activity this year than in the past
few years, especially from non-avid contesters. I seemed to hear
a lot of new call signs and copied more checks from the 21st
century, which is a great sign! A down side is that I had a
number of people call me twice (I just dupe them and go on...).
I definitely will get a new award for this contest - WAS (not the
usual one, but a new one: Worked All Stoves!). I was able to set
off some sort of alarm on our fancy gas range when I got over
about 1200 watts on 80 meters! The XYL was NOT amused...
73 & TNX for all the Q's - John, W4AU
