Comments:

Last year was a disappointment. First effort with modern rig (TS-850) and
computer logging, 100 QSOs down from last real effort with Drake twins and paper
logs. This year I did more preparation than last year, got the station set up
better, strengthened the ladder-line connection to the antenna, and even did the
PVRC Thursday night practice. I had an RF problem with the keying interface: it
would lock key-down whenever I sent with the paddles on 40 meters. I fixed
that, and thought I was ready to go. Started Saturday night, and the first time
I went to 40 I got locked key down whenever I tried to send with the computer.
OH, ****!!! Tried using only the paddles for a while, but decided I had to try
to fix it. A little over an hour lost, and I did get it working, but I lost
most of the options for the rest of my off times. After that I worked harder
than I have in a contest in about 25 years (well, I was, in fact, QRT for about
15 years). I guess I should have worked harder BEFORE the contest, figuring out
some better operating techniques. Down another 70 QSOs from last year, and down
two multipliers (missed ND, PAC, AK, and NT). I guess I didn't spend enough
time in the right places; or something.

I think I fixed most of the bad keyboarding fingery that cost me several QSOs in
the log checking last year. We shall see when the LCR comes out. I hope THAT
is better than last year (Dummy! Check the screen even if you have to look at
the keyboard to type.)

Well, again, I have 11 months to figure out what I'm doing wrong. But I'm
already eager to go.

Thanks for the QSOs and the fun. And CU SS 2006.
