A perspective from 45 Lat, 93 Long, Upper Midwest:
Ten meters is certainly interesting during this part of the cycle.
You never know what you're gonna get for propogation! Friday night
was a struggle using backscatter and meteor shower pings, Saturday
afternoon the band opened like gangbusters and then died out. After
midnight there was a pipeline into the east coast. Sunday was decent,
with a good path into South America. Snagging a ZL before propogation
went into the tank about 3:30 PM CT was fun too.
Low lights: Discovering Saturday evening I had not updated the
contest software from v5.7.2. I locked it once this time and didn't
drop any Q's. A dial into the internet and I had the package updated
and rolling. I could hear W0SD but he just couldn't pull all my
letters together for a contact. Hearing NV, WA, UT, and MT but not
getting their attention! (I need an amplifier with a tube that has
handles on it!)
High lights: Logged W0SD the next morning without any problem.
Running a frequency Saturday afternoon and watching the Q rates go
into the low 200's several times. Getting spotted in the east coast
Packet Cluster network at 1:00 AM (Sat night) and have an avalance of
stations calling me! That was fun!
