Comments:
I hadn't planned to operate in this one, but after a $200 towing bill to get my
overheated SUV brought back to Morgan Hill from San Jose plus a $20 cab ride
home in the rain last night, I decided some Jack Daniels (straight) and a few
contest Q's would ease the pain. *NOT*
My very low 160m inv L with high SWR has never been soldered at the connections
(shame on me). After a few minutes of only being able to work a few loud
stations, I decided I was probably only loading up the feedline and QRT'd.
Woke up about 6:30AM California time, and decided to give a listen. Once I
heard Qs being made, I was hooked for another try. This time, the tuner got my
SWR under 3:1 ... amazing that even non-loud stations came back on the 1st call
this time :-) So I decided to CQ and had lots of takers.
At 1500 zulu things dropped off, and someone sent me a dit dit dit dit dit.
Hmmm, I decided I had better go check the rules to see if 1500 was quitting
time. Yup.
FYI, if you have AAA with the 5 mile only towing limit and find yourself a
longggger way from home facing a costly towing bill, don't overlook negotiating
with the tow truck driver for a Commercial Rate (in my case, this was cheaper
than my AAA plan which would have cost even more $$$).
73 & Merry Christmas to all...
Rick, K6VVA
