First time entering SP with high power. I should have spent a bit more time
searching the band during times of low activity. But it was great fun as
always. All contests should have a meaningful exchange. Conditions were great
at times to the east coast with many W1's sounding like they were almost next
door. Only worked one European, GW3JXN, about 30 JA's, UA0, VK, ZL, HL, and
several Caribbeans. Sure like the one night format. Congrats to the Boring
group for the best contest of the year.
I have 2WL beverages in 8 directions and compared their receive ability to my
transmit arrays many times but never found once where I could hear as well or
better on weak stations with the beverages. It's nice to be able to point the
transmit antenna where I hear the station the best and know that he will hear me
best there also. However, several times I found that I left the transmit
antenna in one direction too long and when I moved it there were stations
calling that weren't audible in the original direction. Guess I better look
into multiple receivers or figure out how to use the 2nd vfo on the Orion.
73, Al K7CA
