Comments:
I did this one QRP from home in Madison. I was thinking of going up to my
station in northern Wisconsin, but would have had to leave at 0500 Sat AM to get
up there and get everything set up. I like QRP in one or 2 contests a year as a
challange, and I also wanted to watch football, and with the TV literally 1 foot
from the radio, I get TVI on 40 and 80 with my unbalanced antenna on those bands
in spite of a couple of RF chokes on the feed line if I run over about 50
watts.
Gear: IC-765, C3S at 30 ft, off center fed 135 foot dipole at 25 ft for 40/80.
Good activity, but by the time I got on 15 was dead and 20 and 40 were very
long. Lots of stations heard me right away, lots more didn't hear me or couldn't
pull me out. CQing was unproductive, with only 6 QSOs in about 20 or 25 minutes
of trying on various bands.
160: no antenna
80: Quiet, nice signals. Easily heard Mark at VP5NA, but he didn't seem to hear
me or anyone else very well.
40: Noisy and long initially. Worked ZF2NT easily. Shortened later in the
contest
20: Long, shortened after sunset. Manageg KL7 on this band.
15: Heard lots of signals about 2000Z when setting up the radio, but by the time
I finally finished my chores and got on at 2200, only heard N9CK who is about 10
miles from me. Interestingly N4OGW moved me there well after sunset, and we had
an easy QSO. Only 2 QSOs on the band, although it was obviously open after
dark.
10: Only QSO N4OGW again well after dark, easily made.
