Comments:

I arrived at the W6YX shack about a half hour before the contest and the parking
lot was full of cars for WPX RTTY. That's when I found out that only one of the
station's amps was working and it was kept running on RTTY until I had 15
minutes to go. Thanks to Mark, K6UFO, for helping me set up WriteLog and
changing the cabling so I could do CW. We finished with a couple minutes to
spare. The second station continued to operate in WPX RTTY, low power.

I wasted the first minute tuning across the 3Y0X pileup before realizing what it
was. 20 meters below about 14035 was wiped out by several loud locals in that
pileup so I worked my way up from there to 14060 or so. It took me most of the
first hour to get into a groove. I had written down my key mappings but I kept
hitting the wrong keys because the RTTY overlay was still on the keyboard.
Every time I tried to send CW with the keyer I botched it - finally when it kept
sending streams of dits I realized that it was adjusted too tightly so I
loosened the screws and no longer felt like a lid. I apologize to everyone who
had to endure that.

I had at least two stations tell me that I was a dupe. I think that in all the
confusion of the 3Y pileups and resulting bedlam they must have thought I worked
them when I was working someone else. Sprint is not a good contest to try to
explain that you're not in someone's log. It was annoying because I kept
hearing these 2 stations in the right sync, but couldn't call them.

I worked all the mults I heard except for VE9DX who I heard on 80 near the end.
I ended up splitting the time roughly evenly between bands and was planning to
spend less time on 80, but 40 became unproductive earlier than I expected so I
switched to 80 early. Congrats to all who made it over 300 Q's, quite an
achievement given the conditions and situation.

-Mike, N7MH
