Comments:

Hit the contest pretty hard from new SC QTH. Tropo conditions were flat, poor
for this time of year. Murphy visited before test- my hours of effort to get
903 and 2304 up and running did not work out- but no problems during test
except S5 noise on 6M from a cell phone installation 100 yards away plus
thunderstorms made the little 6M Es opening Sunday evening almost unworkable.
I had 20 WSJT skeds on 144 (5 hours of skeds), but only completed on 6 (also
four partials, 2 that I missed, and 8 that I heard absolutely nothing from) so
need to re-evaluate the usefulness of skeds. It's a tough decision: optimal
tropo scatter conditions are usually early morning just when optimal random
meteors occur, and this also is when there is a lot of SSB/CW activity. Well,
maybe not CW. I wish there were more of that.
Coming improvements? Maybe I'll get to replace the little 5 el 222 yagi by
January. It's cut for 225 MHz and has a high SWR which limits me to 50 watts.
Six meters, using an ancient 5 el Cushcraft on a 12' boom, is also where I hope
to improve. On two meters especially I need to somehow get more signal
northeast to the Richmond, DC, Philly, NY, etc. megaopolis if I want to be
competitive. I had a 2M 24 el colinear pointed in that direction while I
rotated the 2M KLM 18LBX during the test. For January, I hope to have a 2M 48
el colinear fixed northeast. Hope everyone had fun and got more sleep than me!
Thanks to all the contacts and especially the rovers and also several who have
helped me with my station.
