Comments:

A wonderful feeling to be back in my favourite contest after a break of 8 years
from ham radio. This time with my own IC-746pro and decided to have some fun
the hard way in the un-assisted Low Power category.

Day before the contest, used 2.5 inch & 2 inch PVC Water pipe telescoped into a
30 Foot high mast to support a wire vertical on 40M (base 6 feet off the roof -
14 feet vertical rest in inverted L fashion) with a single elevated radial
towards Europe and it worked! I was even able to make a small run on 40 with my
puny 100W working EU - 40m has been in the best shape I have ever heard.

20M was weak and watered down while 15 & 10 m played well with a host of mults
and some small runs. I could hear several

Highlights:

#1 - Working 5A7A first call on 20m - was not able to hear them while scouring
the bands before the contest using the packet cluster

#2 - The wonderful ops at W6OAT, KC1XX, PJ4A, PJ2T, V47NT, 9Y4AA and of course
HC8N reeling me in on 40M mostly on first call while 6Y1V CQed in my face for
hours - guess I was too weak...

#3 - A host of ZLs & VKs from down under led by ZL6QH, VK6LW & the Cocos Island
beacon VK9AA. Good to hear ZL4IFB (G4IFB) after years.

# - And not to forget the great ops out of Europe and other parts of the world
including CT3NT (CT1BOH), GW3NJW, 9V1YC and others who made this contest truly
entertaining for me - I had fun. Not too many JAs heard or worked here.

A serious operation will be planned for next year now that I have my feet wet
again :) Lets see how it goes especially with some low band antennae.

Rig: IC-746PRO, 100 Watts - I am loving it...

Ant: 40M - Wire vertical, single radial on the roof (for 3 days only!!!)
     20-10M - Force 12 Sigma-5 Vertical dipole on the roof (CCR-ed)

Log: N1MMLogger contest software - surely one of the finest

Interface: Icom OPC-478U for CAT & homebrew keying interface

Computer: 4-port USB hub on my HP Compaq nx6100 laptop

Thank folks for the great fun and congratulations to the top scorers. See you
all next year on all bands. Will do a dry run in SSB and the real thing in CQWW
CW 2007.

NOTE: I am in Edison NJ, for a week starting Dec. 12, 2006 with free time on my
hands and should be on air as W0/VU2PTT from Rapid City, SD from Dec. 17-20,
2006. Would be glad to meet, hear or talk to you...
