Comments:

I'd have to summarize the conditions here at K4TD for this contest as hot, in
fact, blisteringly hot... Unfortunately, it wasn't the band conditions that
were hot but rather the environmental conditions in the shack... Due to a
SNAFU with the air conditioning system, there was a distinct lack of cooling in
the shack during the contest. The temperature inside the shack peaked at around
98F during the afternoon. Doug and I both agreed that we should attempt to use
the cooler outside air to vent the shack... That cooler outside air was a
brisk 91F so it wasn't an entirely effective thermodynamic process to say the
least... The heat inside the shack brought along a whole host of problems in
the computers and radio equipment. We had intended to operate the full 12
hours but had to resort to taking periodic breaks to rehydrate ourselves and
allow the equipment to cool down a bit before resuming our contesting
activities.

My wife had planned to make us a nice hot pasta dish for dinner Saturday
evening, but Doug and I opted for cold chicken salad sandwiches and a cup of
ice cubes down our britches before heading back up to the sauna...errr...I mean
the shack...to resume the contest. Needless to say, the first order of business
at the immediate conclusion of the contest was a dip in the pool and an ice cold
beer (or two).

Thanks for all the Q's and apologies to those whom we couldn't work on 80M due
to the high QRN. The QRN forced us to rely more heavily on the RX arrays,
which are just not well-suited for domestic work.

Looking forward to the January NAQP, but I am remarkably undecided as to
whether or not I will do this one again next August... Regardless, all future
plans for summertime contests will include a pre-contest visit by the friendly
neighborhood A/C repair person to ensure the cooling system is in good shape.
:-)

73,

Rick
