Comments:

Conditions were fair to good, but I had some major equipment problems. First
the 1296 transverter power output fell to next to nothing on Saturady
afternoon, then the 10GHz transverter stopped working on Saturday night. Worst
of all, my 50-432 rotor was intermittent and completely lost calibration on
Sunday afternoon. When it was intermittent I could only turn it about 15
degrees every 10 seconds and the readout wouldn't change. That makes working
off-beam stations extra-challenging! I think my score would have been about
50% better if everything was working right.

There was also plenty of rain Saturday night so I lost a few hours due to S9
precipitation static. I needed the sleep anyway. I didn't miss any
pre-contest skeds since I did not schedule any.

On the positive side, I did work a couple all-time new grids. One with K8GP
was a bonus. I had worked them on all bands I could on Saturday, but then on
Sunday they called me and wanted to try 2304 and much to my surprise we
completed. The DX was 342 miles. During the first set of QSOs we tried 10GHz
rain scatter since the radar images looked favorable, but it was not to be.

There was also unusual (for September) Es skip on 6 meters, even had one double
hop QSO to Mexico for an all-time new grid.

Time for some equipment replacement, I've fixed the 1296 and 10GHz stuff too
many times now. Aluminum hasn't rained down recently, so maybe it's time to
put up some bigger antennas, too...

73 and thanks to all who patiently waited while I guessed which way to turn the
beams,

Russ KB8U
