Comments:
I totally forgot about the DX multipliers, and ended up with only eight instead
of the allowed ten. What a boneheaded mistake!
Absorption was high on 20, and a lot of signals were way down in the mud. They
could hear me ok with the high power, but trying to pull them out was rough.
They were probably saying "What is wrong with this guy?" Conditions on 40 were
very good though. On 80, somebody was running a power tool or something in the
neighborhood and was wiping out the band for a good percentage of the time.
I was on 75 SSB for about an hour with the CW/SSB switch on the AL-1500 in the
CW position. The bias on the tube is much higher in that position, and is all
wrong for linear amplification. Nobody said anything, but it must have sounded
pretty rough! This is my only mixed-mode contest of the year, and I'm not used
to fiddling with that switch all the time.
Thanks for all the Q's and thanks to the mobiles for doing all that running
around. Next "contest" for me is Field Day. (NOT in Yuma!)
