Wow-that was fun. August NAQP's can be brutal sometimes but with 10 and 15 open
with short skip that really helped. With 10 thru 20 open late the activity on 40
was quite a bit later then normal.
This past week with help from N9FC (2 days), K9XV and W9IH I was able to get my
20's stack back up which involved removing broken old mast, installing new mast,
removing middle 20, installing top one, and reinstalling middle one. Sounds like
only a day or so of work right? Well of course it took about 4 days of work off
and on and I figure I was on the tower for about 10 hours or so.
Had a Mr. Murphy Jr. show 10 minutes before the start. A transistor in my
homemade band decoder box went south so I could not use my run radio on 10
meters. Normally not too bad a handicap but with good 10 meters it hurt a
little because I am so use to tuning the 2nd radio, I know I was calling CQ on
10 and tuning the wrong knob moving me up and down the band.
No thunderstorm in the local so my off time was went I wanted it but 80 and 160
were very noisy here-more then normal.
Thanks to several stations for the moves-still amazes me that I cannot work a
MI station on 10 or 15.
