Comments:
I received two K3's to replace my K2 and ICOM-751A sold in the spring. The K3
is touted as a good radio for RTTY so I thought I'd give it a try. I've never
had the pleasure of working this mode before yet alone a RTTY contest. I was a
little skeptical but pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
It seems that Windows XP will support 2 MTTY sessions against the same sound
card so I was able to use it to mod/demod both radios sending the left/right
audio to the appropriate rig. N1MM worked pretty well with this setup.
It seemed to me that 15M was completely shut down and 80M wasn't much better.
I was really surprised at 80 given the great propagation during the IARU in
July. I would have expected that September would be much better. I heard
zone 33 and a fair amount of DX on the first night. I just couldn't work
anything on the half sloper. Will have to check this antenna out.
Only worked a handful of SA on 15M and only one stateside. 15 is starting to
behave like 10M at this point in the cycle.
I'm happy with the results of this first attempt.
CU in CQWW SSB and from VP5W for the CW test.
