Comments:

Congratulations to K5ZD on another big win. I did a lot of antenna work and
indoor station improvements over the summer, but he still clobbered me by about
the same margni as last year. I gave it everything I had, but he outfoxed me on
several strategic decisions.

Reviewing the rate sheets quickly, I can see that I went to a few bands at the
wrong times (too early on 20M for JA/Asia both days and too late to 40 both
afternoons for example). Randy seemed to time the openings perfectly and was
rewarded with some great rates. He also managed somehow to keep his run
frequency clearer on 20 both days, and caught an unusually good 40M European
opening worth almost 300 QSOs while I slept from 06-09z Sunday morning.

I decided this year that I would work hard on multipliers, since last year
Randy beat me by 30 (and has never let me forget it). With a lot of tuning on
the second radio, being loud on 160 and 80, and asking a lot of people for
QSYs, I finally accomplished that difficult goal. When 10 opened south Sunday
afternoon, I even ran around 15M alerting everyone in the Caribbean and South
America that 10 was open and "suggested" a clear frequency for them to start
(so I would get in their logs before the packet pileup started). Thanks to
everyone for the moves!

Waiting to see the scores from N2NT at K1EA, K3CR, and K1LZ. W9RE had a
terrific score from out there in Indiana! His new antennas seem to work very
very well indeed.

I found a few DX stations calling CQ between 7100 and 7125, apparently thinking
that US stations could work them there. Our band starts at 7125, not 7100 (and
in practice, 7128, since it's LSB)! I suspect that they got more than a few
answers there anyway.

As W3LPL said last night on the real 3830, "Only 5 weeks until the CW
contest!".

Can't wait!

73,

Doug K1DG
