Comments:
My girlfriend called this morning to check if I was still alive. Still sleeping,
I grabbed the phone and heard something that my brain couldn't translate into a
legitimate call sign. I shouted back at her - "your call again, please â?¦
several times". Must have repeated this phrase ten thousand times over the
weekend. Most of the time on 20. May be all the time on 20. "Overcrowded" is
not the right word to use for it. It was overcrowded and then multiplied by 3.
To my embarrassment, I couldn't copy anyone's call if he wasn't at least S5. A
lot of repeats, refills and other words starting with "re". And then
occasionally someone would compliment my signal, making me feel even worse.
Strange thing though: when on 80 people were telling me that I was 10 dB louder
than K1LZ it felt in a totally different way.
Both days went to 15 as soon as it showed some signs of life here. The first
day it was so-so, practically only the big guns. The second day, however, the
hell broke loose. For all of the years, operating K3CR, I never had an hour
like this. Started slowly, 1-2 per minute, and then everyone in OK, SP, and DL
was calling in. Unfortunately, it didn't last long and dried out the same way
it started. One minute there were 4 stations calling and on the next I had to
start pushing the F1 key.
All in all, it wasn't that bad, although yesterday at this time I didn't feel
this way. The good news is than it is a whole year until the next one and only
a month until CQWW CW. Congratulations to K5ZD, K1DG and W9RE ! You guys are
tough ! N2NT, K1LZ and K4ZW are the ones to watch.
Again, my sincere thanks to Jim, WA3FET for letting me operate the station and
all of the hard work he has done to keep it in shape.
73,
Alex LZ4AX
