Comments:
The ARRL 160M Contest has long been my favorite contest. This is the 39th year
this contest has been held and I have participated in 34 of them, mostly as a
single-operator.
In past years when I lived in New York my goal was always to try to win it all.
But now that I live in Texas my goals are more simple, to just try to make the
top ten.
This year I made more QSOs than ever before with my best score ever, but still
won't make the top ten. It is a different contest here in the Southwest than it
is on the East Coast. And that's not a complaint, just a fact of life.
Still, I don't regret a single minute of the weekend and I already look forward
to participating again next year.
The two sections I missed were KP4 and VY1/VE8. I have no idea if anyone was
even on from either of those two sections. There were four other sections in
which I had only one QSO each. They were NL, AK, NNY, and MB.
I worked a modest number of Europeans that mostly called me. I was breaking in
a new K3 and I am still learning to use it. So I wasn't as efficient as I would
have liked to have been with the second receiver. But I will learn it better as
I go.
Thanks to all my old friends who stopped by for a QSO.
73, Richard - K5NA
