Lousy conditions. Did better than last year on 80M and 40M, but 20M was weak
(down 2 mults and 60 Qs) and 15M was pitiful (down 2 mults and 40 Qs). Overall,
I was down 47 Qs and 1 mult, but only because 80M and 40M helped pick up the
slack.
Hope British Columbia conditions were better for Ralph, VE7XF, who set the CW
record last year. Heard his big signal on 160, 80 and 40 here. Canadians seemed
harder to find this year (112 vs. 139), so a lot fewer 10-pointers. Gotta wonder
if RAC stations outside of AB and ON have keyers. Worked VE6RAC on 160 and 80,
and VA3RAC on 40 -- thanks guys.
Saw a lot of new callsigns in the log this year, so a hearty welcome to any
newcomers to the RAC Winter contest.
Must comment on the polar path brief opening on 40M during the first hour
Friday. IQ2CJ and OP4K were like nextdoor. Also, had EA booming in for a while
on 20M Saturday morning, but few other EUs on 20M.
Thanks to RAC and particularly the VE5 crew for the annual holiday contest
outing. Now to prep for RTTY Roundup. Happy new year and see you in the 2009
events!
