Comments:
Finally, after 5 years at new QTH, some Es in the Jan. contest on 6M (2 hours
from 1300-1500Z Sunday morning into the Midwest from OH to MN, IO, IL, IN, WI,
and MO areas). This redeemed an otherwise extremely poor scatter weekend (worst
ever in looking at grid totals) and also poor to sometimes randomly enhanced
momentary tropo into PA & NJ.
Puzzling was abysmal activity from Maine, Quebec, and the Maritimes (only 6
local qsos in ME, 2 in VE2, 1 in VE1, and no VO stations---another "worst"
activity in 5 years to North & NE areas).
If it were not for the 66 Es qsos on Sunday morning, the contest totals on 6M
would have rated as the "lowest qso & grid" totals since 2004: overall local
activity in 1/2/3 & VE1/VE2/VE3-land seemed way down from the past few years.
Hopefully we will get some more Es and some Aurora next January to revive the
activity levels from past years?!
Good things: No power line noises in snow flurries all weekend and equipment
and rotor performed flawlessly this time.
Not so good things: Predicted Aurora never materialized late Sunday night, lack
of any sustained meteor scatter, and very, very low activity levels locally and
into NE Canada this time around.
