Comments:

Congratulations to the group in Tier 2 MM category - although we have no live
score capability here, it was fun to track our competition and keep us
motivated. We started the operation at M2 but within minutes, decided to just
have some fun and make it simple by going MM. Ran 4 stations with a small crew
and mostly part timers. Only N9NC was full time and even the chief op (K1RX)
who was here all weekend, had issues - by Saturday afternoon, had lost my voice
and sounded like I was on death's door. Many stations answering took pause to
respond after hearing the live (broken) voice respond - soooo different.

Special thanks to Kurt, W6PH for doing yeoman work during the night and then
catch his grandson's birthday during the day on Saturday. Thanks OM, not VP9
land is it?

Another very special thanks to Dale, AA1QD for a fabulous effort on 20 M on
Saturday. His first time operating at K1RX. I think he sat at the position
from 6 AM til 4 PM. Only taking a small amount of nurishment and water. From
his writeup after returning home, sounds like he had a very positive
impression. Not bad for single 4 el. monobander! (nothing stacked to EU) A man
of few words but wow, can he produce Q's!

Tom, AA1CA of CW QRP fame made a Saturday appearance too that helped us alot
working the slower bands like 10 and 15 M. I think he fell in love with the 5
over 5 stack to SA on 15. He kept commenting "wow". For someone that does not
own a mic, he did pretty well.

Had KF1V arrive on his white horse to save us on Sunday, giving N9NC a much
needed 3 hours break while he pounded away on 20 M and then continued to hang
in with us til nearly the end.

N9NC continues to be the man here! Worked nearly every band, very limited
sleep, brought a new listening antenna for 160 M (a 4 pennant array) that
allowed us to listen right through the heavy QRN on Saturday night. 4
directions supported from a single fiberglass mast. Adding preamp did not help
here so we ran as is and it worked pretty well. It may be Tom, N9NC that
finally motivates me to put up that 4 SQ on 160 that I have been putting off
for years. With only an inverted vee at 90 ft. we seemed to do pretty well
against our competition but competition drives us to do better!

With my broken voice, I used his voice to make DVK recordings by placing the
mic in front of him while he was running 20 M and grabing the appropriate
content.

Thanks so much to our friends around the world for making the ARRL SSB DX
contest an exciting event.

Now off to make summer antenna plans!

73, Mark, K1RX
