Comments:

The plan at RO was a four transmitter M/M as NR6O. Two hours before the start,
one phase of the house's AC power went down, resulting in no 240 vac and half
the house was dark. Resetting breakers did not solve the problem. We started
the contest with three barefoot radios, but upon learning that the electrician
could not fix the problem until Tuesday, we decided to fold up shop, and the
ops went home. An hour later the utility company showed up, verifying some
problem in the meter box. The service man re-seated the meter and suddenly we
now had 240v! But the diagnosis suggested that the failure would probably
repeat under load. I chose not to try operating with or without an amplifier
that night.

Power was still up on Saturday morning, so K6AW came back to the station to
play on 20m as NR6O, and made a respectable score in a semi-serious effort. I
was too bummed out to operate Saturday on other bands, but couldn't resist
getting on 75m for an hour Saturday night using Steve's club call sign. After
watching recorded NHL/NCAA games, I felt the urge again and got back on 75m
about 1 AM Sunday and put in another six hours! Had some good rates, as I was
'fresh meat', and was called by some nice mults in Asia/Oceania.

Two days after the fault, the power is still on, and replacement of the yet
unknown faulty part in the meter box is happening on Tuesday! I'll probably
order a 30 KW generator to be powered by my farm tractor PTO!

How's that for a MURPHY strike?!! N6RO
