Comments:
This was the second of five planned operations in the NAQP CW while driving from
Texas to Maryland. The NAQP had started for me in LA where I had started
operating as K5NA. But when I reached the MS border, it was time to start the
second operation as N5AA.
Through the hour and 19 minutes that I was on using N5AA from MS, I continued
to run into spots of heavy rain. It was getting worse than what I experienced
from LA before and there were periods when I had to stop operating, put both
hands on the wheel, and slow down.
Because of the slower speeds, it was becoming obvious that I would not make as
many miles today as I had planned. So it was unlikely that I would reach TN
and, maybe not, GA as well. This meant that I would not realize my original
goal of five different calls from 5 different states. I made the decision to
use a second call (K5DU) in MS, splitting my operation from there.
After one hour and 19 minutes in MS we guessed that we were about half-way
through MS and I made the switch to the next call to be used, K5DU.
See my next post to continue this story.
