Comments:
When I arrived at the station this year, I was excited to see the line noise
from the last 4 years had been mostly eliminated. Everything was ready on
Thursday night, setup and working. Then I heard a big bang. One of the
amplifiers just blew up sitting there idling. There was an old amp under the
desk so I took a sleeping pill, went to bed thinking I could maybe get that to
work the next day.
The next morning I hooked up the amp, and it seemed to work. After 10 mins it
also made a big bang :( With the help of Joel V44KAI, we found some parts on
the island and fixed the old amp. An hour before the contest I heard no signals
on that radio. The amp was stuck in TX. OK time to give up. No amp on the second
radio. Just like my friend Jose CR3E, but there was no replacement to come.
Worst thing was my big plan to get lots of rest before the contest didn't quite
work out.
I thought it hurt the multiplier because I would avoid trying to work anything
weak on the second radio. But seeing some other scores, it was tough
everywhere.
Had to really fight to stay awake for this one. Tried the "7 hour energy"
bottles. Don't know whats in it, but it made me tingle. I renamed it 1 hour
energy cause that's about all it really lasted.
In the end, my score is slightly up from last year. It amazed me how the qsos
and mults were almost exactly the same with a completely different set of
conditions. The rate sheet is attached below.
Congratulations to EF8M and CR3E with great scores. I assume 8P5A has a big
score too since I heard him everywhere. The single op competition is fantastic
and keeps me motivated.
Thanks of course to Alex V47KP/W2OX and Joe K3NM for their support and use of
the station. And Joel V44KAI for shuttling me around the island and helping me
fix things. Already looking forward to next year.
