Wow... Exactly two years ago, January NAQP CW 2008, was one of my first
contests ever. I was 13, could barely copy CW past 35wpm, and I had to ask
EVERYONE to repeat their name (seriously). I think I made about 250 QSOs (in 7
hours or so), and I lived in Minnesota at the time. I can't believe I'm looking
back at this stuff - Weird.
Because of the antennas, I didn't expect to do any good on 10-20. However, I
DID do slightly better on the high bands than last January, which was nice. I
expected 40, 80, and 160 to be money. 40 was good until it went long, and 80
was great the whole time I was there. 160 was a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE, HUGE, HUGE
BUST.
I left a 140/hr rate on 80 to go to 160 with about an hour and a half left in
the contest. I did this because I needed the mults, and I figured I would have
a higher rate on 160 anyways. What a mistake...
Sure, there were TONS of stations on 160, but nobody could hear me! I called CQ
at least 15 times before the first guy called in, and my frequency was GREAT!
I'm wondering if something happened to my sloper. Normally I can at least run
4s, 3s, 2s, and 9s. That's all I expect to do, but tonight I couldn't even
accomplish that! I know I'm always weak, but C'MON!
Right before I went to 160 I had 631x132. My goal for the end was 750x170. Last
year I had 163x41 on 160, but this year I failed miserably by only getting
110x31! Conditions sounded good, just not for me I guess.
Never heard anything on 10 meters, but I worked W6YI on 5 bands (even 160!).
Best hour was 116 (if you don't go at perfect hourly increments).

As you can see, disappointing 71 hour to finish off the contest on 160. I got
so frustrated that I actually went back to 80 for 5 minutes!
I guess the score is decent for a wire @ 25 ft. Now I have to wait until August
to get another shot at this. Maybe I'll be SO2R by then.
I'll get my revenge on Topband when I go to K1LT for CQ160 CW.
