Comments:

We had talked about not doing this one but decided Saturday morning to go ahead
and do it. KU5B gave N5XJ a call to see if he was going to come up.....when he
said "yes" that is when we decided to go ahead and go for it. So 2 hours before
the contest it was a mad scramble to get set up. Luckily everything that was
supposed to be plug and play actually played. One exception was found with
less than an hour remaining......the east 80m beverage control wire was not
even connected. I guess I simply missed it when I moved the controller to a
different operating position but that did not seem to make much of a difference
anyway.
Only connected one 10m antenna which never was used except to try to keep a
last minute sked. Seems our sked contact quit before we got there at 0559z so
we did not even get our own state mult on that band.
I really cracked myself up at one point. Think I was operating on 80 when a
station gave me the name.......I thought he said "Humper". I really thought
that was going to be a classic until he spelled it out to me (Hunter).
20m shut down rather quickly and seemed to be pretty noisy for us. 40m seemed
to go long early. 80m and 160m really sounded good for the most part. A
little tweaking on the 80 and 160 receive antennas made it even better.
This was our best score ever. We had a good time. For me personally, it was a
welcome break from all the issues I have been dealing with for the last couple
of months. The fact that we had a lot of rain had a lot to do with our
decision to go ahead and operate this one. Rain basically washed out plan for
what I really needed to be doing on this day but allowed us to play radio for a
few hours.
As always, thanks for the q's and the moves.
