Comments:

What a great weekend. First, I'd like to thank Rusty, W6OAT for including my
station in the NCCC M2 shootout. Next, I'd want to thank K7ZSD, K7ZS, W7ZB and
K9JF for making the 300 mile drive to Baker City from Portland to help me
compete in the M2 shootout. They all usually help Brad, K7ZSD compete against
us in the M2 category in most contests. W7ZRC only had to drive 100 miles to
get here, but that's living in the west.
We had a great time contesting together, drinking a lot of good scotch and
telling a lot of good stories.
Even though we tripled our previous best M2 effort in this contest, we all
felt we could have done so much more if the propagation had been just a little
better. We started the contest on 15m & 20m. While 20m was it's normal insane
crowded self, 15m really let us down. We ended up with only 74 Q's on 15m
before the band died for the night, a real let down for us compared to what the
stations south of us did on that band the first night.
40m meters was the other band that was again a big let down for us, especially
the second night. It was so bad the second night that I was worried Brad, K7ZSD
was going to pack up and head home in the middle of the night. He said the
first night was good, but the second night was intolerably slow. From 2am til
7am Saturday night, he made a grand total of 59 Q's in 5 hours and that's with
a 4el 40m beam at 150'.
Looking at the percentage of stations worked on the different continents
really tells the whole story for us in this contest. We normally always work
far more Asian stations than EU stations in these type of contests. In this
contest, 16% of our contacts were into EU and only 15% of our total contacts
were into Asia. That has to be by far the worst ratio we've ever had. Almost
60% of our contacts were with North America. While we appreciated every
contact, all those 1 point contacts don't help the score as much as the 3 & 6
pointers.
Hope we can do this type of joint effort again soon, I had a great time.
Thanks to everyone for all the Q's and we'll look for you in the next contest.

73's Joe
