Comments:
By the end, solar conditions were improving SFI=73 A=2 K=0, up from SFI=70.
Propagation was lousy -- just couldn't get there (anywhere) from here. Visited
the shack many times to get 2 hours total on the air. Managed a very marginal
improvement over last year's inaugural running. UN areas: 7, up from 2 last
year.
15M was dead, so 20M was the only band available in daylight. Stateside offered
very little activity. Heard some loud DX (7X and 6W) on 20M, but not in the
contest. UA0/9s were loud here while little was heard from over the pole. The
few EU stations that were easy copy often needed many fills, indicating some
one-way propagation or a lot of antennas pointed more easterly than NA West
Coast.
40M was a wasteland. Saturday evening, F5IN had a great big signal to BC on 40M
when virtually nobody else could be heard through the early summer noise.
Hope conditions turn around over the next few days. WPX CW could be a rough
outing.
