A big *Thank You* to K5OT for letting me abuse his fine Elecraft radios.
N5RZ and WM5R were both busy this weekend so I decided to do a single
op for a change of pace. The last time this happened was in 2005 so I
was looking forward to the contest. I spent a fair amount of time
getting all my VHF junk to work - as I seem to do each year.
As almost everyone has noted the contest was very good on 6 meters.
Here in Texas it was not so good on 2 meters and up - but 6 more than
made up for it and was enough to keep me busy for the entire
contest. At times during the contest the band was acting more like 20
meters than 6 meters. It was open to almost the entire USA at the
same time - just amazing. I have been hoping to work 2000 contacts on
6 meters for the last few years and I got pretty close this year. The
raw number of contacts on 6 meters was 1990 before subtracting the
duplicates. Next time! I am most grateful to all of the radio
manufacturers that have added 6 meters to almost all of their HF radios
in the last 10 or so years. It is amazing how many more people are on
the band than 15 years ago.
Thanks for all the contacts and all the fun.
Also congrats to all the other stations that had a great time.
I am sure that K5QE, NR5M, KC4PX and others will report some huge
scores as well - looking forward to all the reports.
