Comments:
My favourite contest of the year, though my score has gone down since last year,
and that in turn was lower than in 2008! I lost 4 hours of prime operating time
on Saturday evening due to a local thunderstorm with S9+30dB rain static. That
meant fewer QSOs than in the previous 2 years, though a few more more Zone and
Country mults this year. Conditions were good on 15m: it is a few years since I
have heard the band full right up to 21450. Weirdly I seem to do better when
conditions are poor: I think this is because being near the equator I can still
run on 15m when the band is poor, while most stations in higher latitudes are
just doing S&P. This year I found it difficult to be heard in Central and
Western Europe on 15m with all the East European and Russian stations running
on the band. 10m never really opened here: one S9+ SV9 station but almost no
other Europeans. D4C was too weak on 10m to crack his pile-up. As usual,
gotaways were those in Zones 8 and 9 - I just couldn't crack the pile-ups on
P4, PJ4 and FY5, though I was pleased to be called by KP2M and TO7A. Congrats
to 9Y4W for his good ears: the only Caribbean station to hear me through his
pile-up.
