Comments:

Wanted to just use the contest to test low band Beverages but the tropical QRN
was so fierce from Hurricane Tomas 250 miles WNW and toward the states that 160
meters was not useable. Thought there would be a demand for my section only to
find the band full of VI operators. I am not a big SS fan but enjoyed the
chance to work many old friends including Chip K7JA who incredibly won (first
time ever) both CW and Phone SS weekends from my QTH in the same year about 30
years ago using only a Yaesu FT-101E and paper logs with a paper dupe sheet!

This year on 80 meters the W, NW, and NNW 750' Beverages made the difference
over copying the many QRP stations in the log even several from the west coast.
My TX antenna was a high dipole on 80 but the Beverages won hands down on
receiving, even on 40 meters.

Don't think I will try SS Phone due to previous commitments but the QTH is
always open for guest ops for a contest weekend, at least until I get the bugs
worked out of the SM2O Remote rig via internet. If the rules every permit, ops
from overseas places like Europe and Asia could even enjoy SS without leaving
home. At present they can only listen to the beehive SS activity on the bands.

Right now the average latency from here to the west cost is just under
200ms.... but since Albert Einstein never figured out how to make data travel
faster than the speed of light, I guess I am stuck with that limitation for
now. I have a good throughput B/W is near 5 meg upload and download but
reliable latency is the key to a good remote contest operation.

Logs have been uploaded via LOTW for this contest.

Herb, KV4FZ
