Comments:

- Had fun, dispite the inherent frustrations associated with QRP. Was really
disappointed to miss the sweep - I thought it wouldn't be that difficult this
year, having done it before, and I worked VE8EV very early to get NT out of the
way. I missed MS and AR. I heard one AR station S&Ping, and two MS stations
running - one on 15 and he was working 6s and the other was on 80 and I
couldn't get through the pile-up. Bummer.
Obviously most of this was S&P for me, but I was able to get some decent runs
on 15. It was nice to get a lot of compliments on my signal, especially on 15
and 20, sometimes even before the other station realized I was QRP! Conditions
are everything and I had a pretty good pipeline to the west coast Saturday and
Sunday afternoons. 80 and 40 were really tough sledding for QRP, as usual. At
times the QSB was really severe. It got really bad at the very end with guys CQ
in my face so I threw in the towel an hour early. I had started the contest
with a bad cold and was losing my voice before things even got going. So
between coughing and my voice cracking all the time like I was going through
puberty, it was interesting.
Congrats to W1XX who had a great Q score early on Sunday AM. Hopefully I can
crack the top 10 - we'll see!

As always, thanks to everybody for your patience and perseverence in pulling
the QRP signals out of the noise!

Station: FT-897D at 5 watts; 3 el tribander Yagi at 48 feet and inverted vee
with apex at 45 feet

73,
Randy, ND0C
