Comments:
This was sort of a recreation of my first ARRL 160 effort from about 1973. That
year, I borrowed a Meissner Signal Shifter from N6AA to get on during the
contest.
This time, I was using a Johnson Viking Model 122 VFO (6AU6) which was
"driving" my pair of 3-500Zs. My signal was only about 20 db over S9 on my K3
when using a beverage for receiving. My 50 watt slug produce no deflection on
the Bird wattmeter.
Congrats to those who were able to pull my signal out of the noise. I hope to
build a suitable transmitter to hook this VFO up to - and get at least 35 watts
out of it - which should drive the 3-500Zs a bit better.
