By far my best showing, and I only managed to operate one night! I got on at
2200Z on the first night, managed 2 hours and then ZAP, power out until the
next day. Big snowstorms here downed lots of power lines, so that was that for
Friday night. Played around here and there during the day and sat down for good
at 0000Z for the last night, and I thought conditions were great toward Europe.
I really think I need something more than this old TS-850S with the stock
Kenwood 500 Hz filters, just too hard to hear that layer of DX right under the
S9+20 dB superstations here CQing away. Now I think I know why everyone is
using K3s!
My favorite contest of the year, I am really glad I have a pennant RX antenna.
I was hearing stuff on that antenna that I could barely hear at all on my
inverted L. And the Pennant is not ideal, it is REALLY close to my TX antenna
(a couple of yards away!), but still it outperformed my short (40M long)
Beverage and my TX antenna. Next year I think I will try to move it farther
away from TX antenna and also put one up beaming WEST for US. Managed to work
50 10 pointers and 35 5 pointers (17 VE), this was a best for me.
