Comments:
My suspicions were correct ... very few (except Sprint Pros N2IC, N2NT, N6TV,
K5ZD and a few others) capitalized on the BELOW 14040 zone. 90% of the
stations I did work BELOW 14040 were VERY LOUD. During the first 15 minutes, I
called CQ 80 times between 14035 and 14039 with no replies. Ended up S&P'ing a
few times, but ONLY within the BELOW 14040 zone (which I said last week I was
going to do - except ABOVE 7040 on 40m).
K5ZD had a MONSTER signal up here on both 20m and 40m, and heard some other
LOUD stations as well compared to a normal Thursday Night NS.
It has been rain-rain-rain up here since I arrived on Monday. After getting
soaked putting up a 20m antenna at Island QTH #2 this afternoon, I opt'd to NOT
go back out to try and put up the low 80/40m wires. So I used the tuner to at
least get me on 40m for the last part of the NS by going back out in the heavy
rain to insert a makeshift coil (that put the antenna resonant at 8+ Mhz).
If there is a practive tomorrow night I'll miss it, as am invited to a nice
salmon dinner. Food Rules!!!
Hopefully I can get be fully set up for the real deal on Saturday. Have not
decided if I will do LP again from here as in 2007, or HP with 500w.
Station: Locust Special portable vertical on 20m w/coil insert for 40m,
TS-480HX + KPA500 Amp ~500w.
73 & Tnx for the Q's & Mults...
Rick, K6VVA * The Locust (a/k/a KL8C "ART AK")
