The score reported here has 232 q's that were made with other 1D stations
removed. It includes the 50 points bonus for electronic submission.
I had no plans to operate FD, thought I would still be on the road doing tower
work.
But, as it turned out the project I was doing with K6NA on a mountain top in
No. Cal. got an unexpected extra man to make things go faster.
KH6ND was out doing some commercial jobs in No. Cal. & OR, and was an his way
home at the time we were starting our project. Mike had his partner drop him
off at our site and we got everything done by Friday afternoon.
Mike & I got home here Friday night and decided we would try to get on and play
around a bit with FD on Saturday.
Mike had to repack & consolidate all his gear to make it ready to fly home on
Sunday. We unpacked the truck and while Mike was repacking, I setup the
station. The rotor on the TH7 was dead, we managed to rotate the AB577 tower
enough to get the TH7 pointed at 50 deg, instead of 70 where it should have
been. One of the top guys had slipped in the binder and we had to reset that to
get the tower tuned up properly.
We didn't get on until 3 1/2 hours into the event. Since we were just going to
fool around for a few hours, we ran the MP MkV at 200 watts, and the MP at 100
watts, so we were HP. We figured it would be a little more fun to be a little
louder on the MkV to run for the few hours we would be on.
Rates were good and we were having lots of fun!
We can't stop now.....so we ordered in a couple of large pizzas (we had plenty
of beer ;-))and went for it full time all the way to 17:00Z Sunday.
We were pretty tired from the road trips, so we took turns operating and each
got to take a couple of short naps. The coffe pot was on full time ;-)
At 17:00Z we had to shut down and jump in the truck and get Mike to the Reno
airport to make his flight.
If we had known that we would get semi-serious about operating FD we would not
have used HP, and would have tried to get on the air on time!
Oh well! it was what it was.
Lots of unplanned, unexpected fun with a good friend!
We had a blast!
Thanks for all the Q's!
73, Kurt, K7NV
