K3, KPA500, 51' T antenna
Great conditions - at least they were great after I went out and swept the snow
and ice off of the plastic bin acting as a dog house for the base of the wire T
I use for a 160 antenna. That was shorting my vertical to ground about 1 foot
up.
I only got on in spurts, mostly when doing the old fart wake up in the middle
of the night thing - which luckily coincided with very nice openings to EU on
both nights. Nice to work DX using fast CW on 160 - most DX contacts on 160 are
very slooow CW.
The little bit of running I did I went SO2V with the aux receiver in the K3,
scanning the band for new stations in my right ear. I came across K0RF as a new
one but had to send another CQ first. As that ended I heard K0RF in the left ear
answering that CQ - threw me for a loop at first. I guess SO2Rers have that
happen all the time.
Bernie W3UR as J77A calling in was a highlight. Missed AK and NE for the single
contest WAS. Worked a jillion VE3s - Ontario must be a forest of inverted Ls
these days.
