Called CQ almost the entire the time. I did some spend time listening to my
2nd receiver in SO2V mode to S&P the band map between CQs, but as you see in my
rate sheet posted below, made few Qs on 2nd VFO. Only S&Ped the band map a
couple times this weekend, unlike what I'd do in a multi-band contest.
And only jumped to a few spots, otherwise I was CQing.
Friday night had the least noise of the weekend. Most of the rest of the
weekend the band had lots of noise with plenty of relatively slow QSB at my
QTH. Even with my Beverages, had to send & ask for weak callers to repeat
their calls twice (or more) in a row to be able to copy the complete calls -
typical though for 160. This was especially noticeable in the busted calls on
the Skimmer cluster putouts on Saturday night as the Skimmers copied what they
heard through the noise. Lots of dupes on those broken cluster calls as
assisted stations clicked on the spots without watching the band maps for
busted spots.
Sat night was first time I used all of the DSP processing capability in the
4 months I've owned my IC-7800. Without that capability, I could not have made
the Qs through that heavy noise heard here.
Highlights included working 3V8BB and RI1ANF through the big pileups.
I've posted my statistics below. In summary, 72% of my Qs were USA (747), 4%
Canada (45), leaving 24% for the rest of the world (246), including 51 DLs & 17
Gs.
