Comments:
This was our first effort in 2013th. YT0A/YU1EXY contest site is at the suburban
area of Belgrade. We started to build the station primarily for low band DX-ing
and contesting 10 years ago. In this 10 years we got neighbors all over around,
with nice, new, two store houses. Every of our eight beverages got one, hi.
Beverages are a bit short for a top band, around 170-180 mtrs long, but worked
well. There was two operating sites in the room, interlocked of course, with
independent receiving capability during RX sequences, but not very useful this
time. Operators were totally out of phase (sorry N7DD). European 1810-1830 zoo
does not allow breaks greater than few seconds, or you loose your running freq.
The most valuable improvement regarding previous years was G59 SDR receiver
(YU1LM design) with GSDR software (a PowerSDR variant by YT7PWR). This was
first serious effort as we use it. Comparing to the FT1000MKV as RUN and
TS950SDX as MULT radios, showed clear advantage of the SDR receiver with
capable PC DSP processing over classic radios. Especially during JA openings
with very strong EU signals very near. It looks like it is true that SDR has
very large dynamic range even 100 Hz of the receiving pass band. It was no
problem at all to find clear frequency. There is a post by OY7YY regarding key
clicks we produced. He is the only one who told us that, post contest. But it
might be. I don't know if this Mark V has key clicks modification done. We will
check it .
In any case, this contest was not very demanding and we had a real good time.
We made over a million, which is good score. Maybe we can do a bit better, but
not too much!
Live contest score server at contesting.ru is cool thing. Although a bit
disappointing when you see competitors are doing much better!
Thanks all calling us! Excuse for all of you we did not get throught EU QRM!
