Comments:
This was not my finest 4 hours. Probably my poorest outing in the CW sprint in
many years. Things started out OK, but after about 40 minutes I started having
problems with my 2 radio controller, a MicroHam micro2R. It kept dropping out
and I could not key either radio. I had to constantly reboot it. I didn't
handle the situation well. I wasted a lot of time continually rebooting it when
I should have either just gone to one radio or turned the amp off. A bit of
analysis after the contest showed me that this was the first time I had used
this particular controller with high power. I had never had problems with it
before using it with LP or QRP so I strongly suspect it is an RF issue. Way too
late I finally turned the second radio off and took the controller off the
computer and keyed with my MicroHam CW keyer. By that time I wasn't even
listening on the second radio much less making any QSOs. In fact I had only 2
second radio QSOs and they were in the first hour. From looking at my log I
estimate I lost about 35-45 minutes of operating time and probably an equal
number of QSOs while screwing around. I also apologize for too many lid moments
when I hit the wrong key during exchanges and sent the exchange in the incorrect
order. This was the first time I had used N1MM in a sprint and I had 2 exchanges
programmed, one each for S&P QSO and CQ QSO. I kept hitting the wrong button.
Also N1MM very often sent the same serial number on consecutive QSOs. Not sure
what that's all about. The whole thing was very frustrating.
thanks for everyone's patience.
