Comments:
I had a very limited time this year due to church functions, birthdays, et al.
This is not my favorite DX contest, so I tried something a little different to
spice it up. I led with the low bands, particularly 80 meters - I started late
on Friday evening, but 80 meters was in relatively good shape - it is very
difficult to work into the EU going against the USA east coast - those guys
absolutely slaughter us. In two evenings plus some limited sunrise time, I
managed 55 countries on 80 meters and 20 countries on 160 meters.
My change of tactics came when I decided I wouldn't work more countries on any
band than 80 meters - it was a fun balance to keep jumping around the bands to
keep the country totals below the 80 meter level - it's interesting that I was
within one or two countries on 40, 20, 15, and 10. 160 meters was in poor
shape, but I managed to eke out 20 countries, mostly Caribbean and South
America, but also a few EU and Pacific stations.
I had a birthday dinner Sunday afternoon and had about 15 minutes to wrap up at
the very end - to my delight, my pals at VP5S were on 20 meters, the last band I
needed for a six band sweep. Scott and the boys did a great job and always had a
terrific signal.
73 and best of luck!
