Comments:
I think this whole antenna gain thing is a concept that could catch on some
day.
This was my first ARRL DX using a gain antenna - 3 el 20 m up 35 feet (about 10
m).
Also, I took a few hours off from my own station to run up the hill and drive
the big aluminum at K2PO.
What a gas. It's a treat to hear all those other stations that I don't normally
reach, like the 100 W, 50 W, and QRP stations from Japan and Europe. Also
notable up at K2PO is working most stations on the first call with 100 W. And
how about picking up semi-rare multipliers during a run. Who would've thought?
I got HL, HS, 4X, CN, and YB just by sitting there and having them come to me,
instead of grinding through a pileup. Sweet!
Compared to last year: Hours were less by about 4. Q's were a bit more but
mults were about 20% less and so is net score. There was just not as much DX on
the higher bands that I could reach, and a bit less on 40 as well. Fun was much
higher though.
A special mention goes to these stations who I logged on all 6 bands: 6Y2T
HK1NA KH6LC KP3Z P40L PJ2T PJ4X TI5W VP2ME ZF2AM. Thanks for your efforts!
And thanks to Bob for putting 3D2/R on the air and pulling my call out on 5
bands. That's not a mult you can count on every time.
73 and thanks for the Q's
Carl WS7L
K3 / KPA500
HF-2V for 80/40, R-6000 for 10/15, Top-loaded 50 ft vertical for 160, and the
aforementioned 20 m beam.
