Comments:
The contest started off with a snafu - the computer would not key the rig for an
unclear reason. I had to wait on the back up to start up from its encrypted hard
drive so got a 12 minute late start.
The band conditions were tough from the upper Midwest. I have created a new
definition of knowing when you are contesting from "Black Hole" - It
is being unable to get a run to Europe on Saturday on 15 meters despite running
1.5 KW with a 7/7 stack! I kept hoping the band would open to Europe and it did
on Sunday afternoon with 3 hours to go!
I tried a new tactic this contest - I ran 95% of the time. It works! I found a
few multipliers by tuning across the band but nearly all my QSO's were from my
runs.
Best contact in the run mode: Starting CQ on 15 in the last hour and having
China call me!
Best find in the s/p mode: OA4SS with 10 minutes to the end on 15 meters.
Biggest surprise: Very few EU runs on 40 meters despite my 2 ele Yagi at 110
ft.
Thanks to all the stations who worked me. It is nice to have an automatic amp
now in the station - and the automation from Array Solutions with the
Bandmaster III and the 8 Pak are very nice for contesting.
