Comments:
What a difference a year makes! This year, I Sven (DF9MV) started on 40 and I
started on 20. Where was my 100 hour on 15 meters to start the contest like
last year? The first hour on 20 was only 87! 40 didn't cooperate either - we
had two hours over 100 last year Friday night. This year was noisy.
Conditions finally started to improve the last few hours of the contest Sunday.
15 was so quiet I could work weak JA's that would normally be covered up by
band noise. 40 was very quiet during the last hour too!
I worked YJ0PO for a new country on 40 for one of the high points of the
contest! :-)
For a while conditions were so poor that I was showing our "memorial"
WAE SSB Plaque (we won North America with 722 QSO's for a 48-hour effort).
Peter (W2CDO) suggested what will become our mult-op team motto: "We're
too stupid to quit." :-)
Forty was the top scoring band again this year - usual for this station and
location - last year was an anomaly. Our strategy is to concentrate on six
point QSO's (Europe) and work 3 point QSO's when we can't work six pointers!
This year we did more S&P chasing RBN spots. This increased our rates
during the slow periods substantially.
