Comments:
Portable QRP operation from the top of Holt Hill in Andover, Mass., elevation
420'. Weather was clear, dry and 78F.
Station Equipment:
- Yaesu FT-817ND
- Icom IC-3AT
- Elk 2M/440L5 portable log periodic antenna
- 1/2 wavelength 6m dipole, homemade
- 12V gel-cell battery
I operated Sunday afternoon into the evening, quitting after sunset as planned,
active on four bands: 50MHz, 144MHz, 222MHz(FM), 432MHz.
Slow afternoon for QSOs, not picking up until the evening. Checking many times
for antenna connection and coax faults, I found none. No enhancements noted.
Equipment worked as designed. The tripod is worn out and would support only to
6' height and it required zip ties to keep it from spinning around freely.
Great day to be outside even if there were extended periods without Qs. Made
more FM Qs than usual, starting from 223.5 FM simplex and working down.
73, Alexander N1PRW
