Comments:
Conditions overall were poorer this year than in 2012. Europe never opened very
well, and only managed 43 EU QSOs compared to 83 last year. We can only dream
about all those HQ mults from out here on the West Coast. Although operating 2
more hours this year, my total score was down about 10 percent. QSO count was
976 versus 985 in 2012, and mults 177 versus 183. Average score per QSO was
2.996 this year versus 3.164 in 2012.
Activity level was helped by the WRTC Test Stations. I worked 23 of the 25
WRTC Test Stations, missing only N1JD and W1MA. Worked 10 stations on 80M, 5
on 40M, 20 on 20M, and 9 on 15M for a total of 44 QSOs. Contacted K6ND, NJ1F,
and W1UE on 4 bands. Test Station signals seemed equal, except on the higher
bands where I may have worked some with their beams toward EU.
We had a very nice all night opening on 20 to VK/ZL, Southeast Asia and Japan.
All in all an excellent contest, spiced with the challenge of unique July
condx.
73,
Bob W7YAQ
