If you think the last few hours of CW SS are slow, try Single Band 80 Meters.
Not a typo -- flogging myself with tree branches was getting old so I decided
to try something different in SS to add a little interest. I admit this did
keep me in the chair for my usual maximum of about 15 hours.
I know that "single band" in the SS is meaningless but it meant
something to me.
500 watts, 135-foot doublet at about 45 feet AGL.
At least going in I knew there was no chance for a Clean Sweep so I didn't pay
any attention to multipliers. I missed what you would expect: SK, NT, PAC, AK,
PR, VI. I did tune around a couple of times and found VE6EX; otherwise they all
called me. Too bad that all six are perfectly workable on 80 from here.
Seeing all those zeros in the band box on the screen was a little weird.
Band was quiet and condx to the Left Coast were good for me but not enough
people there. I probably could have made more Qs on 40 Meters; maybe next
year.
