Comments:
Great conditions => great fun, and a personal best in this contest.
The only downside were a few multi-ops with really lousy audio. 4A1TD was the
champ, and no one else was close -- their audio was so bad that they were
almost impossible to copy. I passed over them at least a dozen times, and
didn't bother to take the time to work them until I was running out of stations
to work. W5PR was runner up. When I worked both of them, I told them how bad
their audio was, and both still sounded bad at the end of the contest. Then
there were the Texas superstations, who had cranked their mic gains up so much
that they filled their sidebands with hash from the background noise in their
shacks. Loud is good. Loud sideband trash is not.
When are we going to realize that excessively cranking our mic gain and
compression not only splatters, but it makes us more difficult to copy?
