Comments:

The Hesston College calendar usually schedules graduation weekend on 7QP
weekend, but this year that didn't happen. I could finally put in a full
effort. Activity seemed good at the start, but after 6 hours, I was almost 100
contacts behind from last year's record run. Fortunately I had 3 extra hours to
make that up. I caught up at the half way point, then kept slightly ahead the
rest of the party. I ended up with 4 more CW contacts, 32 more SSB contacts,
and an amazing 16 more mults than last year (5 higher than my personal best).

In this QSO party, I don't focus on mobiles because the SSB rates are so good,
but I keep looking for them on the second radio. They disappear and reappear
(often on different frequencies) as band conditions change. I know I miss
mobile counties and spots would be really helpful, but they're not allowed in
the Single-Op category.

The fixed stations, mobile stations, and expeditions once again did a great
job. Overall, I worked 437 unique calls, almost the same as last year's 441. I
concentrate on the 7QP, but I always enjoy working INQP and NEQP stations who
call needing Kansas.

Here's the top group from the mobiles, expeditions, and fixed stations. Some of
the mobiles were just driving along and gave me counties along the way.

19 WW7D/m - thanks for looking for me on SSB!
16 K5YAA/m - always knew where to look, but couldn't always hear you
12 K7KO
11 N7XU/m
11 W1AW/7
09 N7WA/m
08 N7DXT N7KE N7SMI NK7U
06 KK6MC/m
03 W7QC/m N7OU/m N7BDL/m KT7G/m K7GPS/m

It was great to have W1AW/7 active from Nevada. I worked them in CLA, STO, and
WAS, but apparently missed them in CAR and NYE (as shown on the planned
operations web page). Logging the different counties was no problem, but none
of the W1AW/7 stations gave their county when calling CQ, so it sometimes took
time to wait for a caller and find out if they were a new county on a
particular band and mode. At times I gave up waiting and just asked.

As usual, 20m was my money band with 15m open at times. Relatively low noise
helped out on 40m and 80m, but I couldn't get anything going on 160m or 10m.
The last half hour I waited for K5YAA/m to get to Carbon, WY, answered a few
160m CQs and called CQ on 160CW with no takers. The last five minutes I spent
calling CQ on 160SSB and finally got an answer from WB7UZO for my one, only,
and last contact.

Here's my county history plus this year's stats. I did operate in 2006 (the
first year), but only put in 9 hours that year so it's not included. This year
includes five new personal bests (PB), and one tied PB.

2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014: MAX POSSIBLE

15.0 16.4 16.1 17.6 14.1 13.5 14.1 17.1: total hours

My score this year (273,514) was also a personal best.

In Arizona, I missed GHM GLE LPZ SCZ.
In Idaho, I missed BOI BOU CAR CLE CUS FRA FRE GEM LEM LEW ONE VAL WAS.
In Montana, I missed most of them .. room for improvement.
In Nevada, I missed ESM EUR HUM LIN MIN.
In Oregon, I missed HOO UMA WAL.
In Utah, I missed BEA CAR DAG GRA IRO JUA MIL PIU RIC SNJ SEV UIN WST
In Washington, I missed COL FER GAR KTT LEW MAS PEN.
In Wyoming, I missed ALB CRO FRE GOS HOT JOH NIO PLA WES.

I've been keeping track of counties worked in the 7QP each year. No one is
likely to work all 259 in one year, but if you combine the years, I'm down to
22 remaining. This year, I picked up nine new ones:

IDADM IDBEN IDBLA IDCAM ICCLA IDPOW WAASO WYUIN WYWAS

Here are the ones I have never worked in the 7QP :

AZ : all worked
ID : CAR FRA FRE LEW ONE WAS
MT : BLA DAN DEE GOL LIB MAD ROO ROS SHE STI SWE TRE WHE WIB
NV : MIN
OR : all worked
UT : all worked
WA : FER
WY : all worked as of this year (thanks, Jerry and Alan!)

The 7QP is a unique effort over a very wide area. Thanks to the CODXC and the
many participating stations for another job well done!

You're all invited to the Kansas QSO Party on August 23-24, 2014. There are 105
counties (N6MU and N8II worked all of them in 2013), certificates and antique
amateur radio stamps to earn, and plaques to win. Hope Kansas puts you all in
the log!

73, Bob, w0bh
